As a part of Dr Wahab's engineering design lab and research group, I researched on the topic of applied biomimetics. On the project funded by the NASA EPSCoR grant and NASA KSC Corrosion Lab, I came up with a novel electro-chemical process using FEA to impart additive mechanical interlocking and adhesion mechanism to metal surfaces used in the NASA flame trench facilities. My research findings were empirically adopted by NASA and is seen in action in the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

Acting as a volunteer design adviser, I helped Dr Sayeba Akhter an esteemed Obs/Gyn specialist from from Dhaka Medical College, Bangladesh to develop a low cost technological design solution to control massive postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) among her patients,a phenomena that is responsible for 30-50% of direct maternal deaths worldwide. We devised a condom balloon tamponade, a form of intrauterine tamponade, created from a catheter, a male latex condom, and a string to tie the condom to the catheter- to replace the more expensive baloon style temponade. Since then the design has received widespread reception among surgeons in developing countries, especially in the low resource areas of the world.
